I love open-source!
I think I say this every time I can, but the idea of having people from all around the world contributing their time and effort on a project that’s either not theirs, or not for their sole benefit, is something that I believe more industries show mimic.
However, for years a big issue I’ve noticed in our industry is: how do you get started in open-source?
Because there are plenty of huge communities around big projects, making them grow even bigger, but what about when you’re just getting started and no one knows who you are or what you’re working on?
I’m wondering how many of you are actually active open-source contributors right now. Or how many of you are looking for help on a project of your own?
Granted, there are many places right now that have great tutorials and how-tos for your first commit. Which is usually a typo correction on a documentation page or something similar, something manageable and easy.
But what about later? What if you’re itching with the need to help out somewhere else? Or mind you, what if you actually have your own project out there and no one is really showing any interest in contributing to it?
Maybe it’s just me, but I feel like as a community, we’re not doing such a great job in that area. Would you agree?
If you have 2 minutes, please help me understand what you think about this topic filling in the following 5-questions Google Form:

Otherwise, I feel like I’m shouting into the darkness, you know? I’d love to understand what you think and learn about your own experience with open-source.
Thanks! And have a great week!
